This book takes place during the Revolutionary War. There are two slaves, named Isabel and Ruth. They are sold to a horrible master and mistriss when their former slave owner dies. Isabel and Ruth have to find a way out of the Lockton's house. A slave named Curzon that Isabel met, convinced Isabel to spy on Master Lockton, who is a Loyalist and has given away details to Isabel that could get him into trouble. Curzon told Isabel and Ruth that they would have promised freedom. If Isabel gets caught in the act, then she could get in trouble and possibly get her self killed.

Thinking back when they had to fight for food, had no rights, and be beaten to death for something that they never did made me think how precious our world is today.
We should all be greatful for the things we have, like a house to live in and food to eat and think about others more then ourselves.
